Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Central U.S.; Excessive Heat Across the Western and Southern U.S.

Severe thunderstorms will be possible on Independence Day, mainly across parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley, Ozarks, and southern/central Plains. Excessive heat with possible record highs and warm overnight lows will continue to impact much of the West into next week. Another hot day is expected today. Heat index values will be be between 100 and 112 in most areas, excpet in northwest Oklahoma where slightly cooler temperatures are expected.
There is a slight risk of severe storms across portions of Oklahoma and a small area of north Texas this afternoon and evening. The primary threat will be thunderstorm winds of 60 mph or greater, with some hail (up to golf ball size) possible as well. The severe storm potential will mainly be between 4 PM and 11 PM.
There will be a chance of showers and storms developing late this afternoon across portions of central Oklahoma, especially from Stillwater and Seminole through the OKC metro to areas just northwest of Lawton.
Storm chances increase this evening, especially from Seminole, Holdenville and Ada over toward Duncan and Lawton.
Storm chances shift south into southern Oklahoma and north Texas late this evening.
With the very hot temperatures along with gusty south winds and low afternoon humidity to go along with stressed vegetation, elevated fire weather concerns will occur across parts of the area.
