Strong to Severe Thunderstorms in the East; Heat in the Central and Western U.S.

Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are forecast Thursday from parts of New England into the Mid Atlantic and Carolinas. Significant heat will expand across the West and Central Plains through Friday, potentially breaking daily high temperature records. Most of South Texas remains in a moderate heat risk today with mostly sunny skies and heat index values generally 100-105. Never leave anyone alone in a closed car, drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing.
Expect mostly sunny skies today. There is a LOW risk of rip currents today and on Friday, but as always, use caution when in the water. Dangerous swimming conditions are always possible, especially near piers and jetties. Highs will be in the upper 80s with an extreme UV index.
Rain chances decrease to below 20% this weekend, before increasing early next week. Partly cloudy skies will continue with high temperatures from the upper 80s to upper 90s and low temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
Low rain chances today across the Coastal Plains under partly cloudy skies with high temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to upper 90s.
Partly cloudy skies will continue through tonight with southeasterly winds of 5-10 mph. Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 70s.
