Record breaking heat wave will continue to affect much of the western United States through this holiday weekend. Experience what a career in the National Weather Service entails!

Eligibility

  • College students entering their junior or senior year, or graduate students. Recent graduates will also be considered.
  • Those who demonstrate strong interest in a National Weather Service career.
  • Successful applicants will be subject to mandatory security and background checks.

Expectations/Outcomes

  • Gain familiarity with the process for generating routine NWS forecasts.
  • Experience and assist with real-time severe weather operations.
  • Participate in office outreach activities. NWS Flagstaff summer volunteers may have the opportunity to visit neighboring NWS offices in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and/or Tucson as well.

Schedule

  • The program will last for approximately 8-12 weeks in a window from mid-June through mid-August.
  • 2-3 shifts per week, approximately 10 hours per week. Shifts will mostly be during weekdays, but some weekend shifts may be accommodated.
